Dan Zottarelli, Marine Specialist

Dan is an experienced Captain and Dockmaster for over 25 years. Some of you may know Dan when he was the Dockmaster and Marina Manager at Mears Great Oak Landing Marina for 20 years. Seasoned boaters may have known Dan when he was the Dockmaster at Georgetown Yacht Basin from 1970-75.

In the marine industry Dan was regarded as one of the best in the business of Marina Managers. Also in his tenure as Dockmaster, Dan made yacht deliveries of many million dollar Yachts. As a captain, Dan was regarded to have a natural talent in docking and navigating large boats.

Dan currently serves as an Officer and Program Director for the Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club.

Lois Serio, joined FAM&M in 2002 as a Commercial Lines Customer Service Agent and obtained her license in 2005. In 2010, Lois joined our Marine Specialty Department — Dockmasters Yacht and Marine Department. Lois has earned the Marine Insurance Specialist Designation with Foremost Insurance Group.

Lois is also a member of the Mid Atlantic Mariners Club and is an avid boater on the Chesapeake Bay. Lois’s expertise is in the private pleasure craft.

Always cheerful and upbeat, working with Lois is a pleasure. The research she does ensures that the quotes we provide are competitive in any aspect of the marine industry.

In 1987 MARITINE INC. Retained Dan to make a film titled “Ropes Knots & Line Handling.” Dan’s expertise was demonstrated in this film. In line handling Dan invented the line handling technique called “Whipping the Cleat”. This cleat tying technique is when you tie a line to a cleat without bending over then putting a half hitch to clinch the not. Dan was also known to be able to lasso a piling from over thirty feet away. All of these skills and more were demonstrated in this 90 minute film.
